Corbin Leaverton won his fourth SXS Pro Production race of the season at Glen Helen WORCS round six.
The following is a race report from WORCS/Harlen Foley….
Devore, CA – Corbin Leaverton won his fourth SXS Pro Production race of the season as the ATV MC WORCS Series presented by Polaris RZR completed its sixth round of the season, at Glen Helen Raceway. Beau Baron finished second, ahead of Beau Judge. Cody Bradbury and Bradley Callahan rounded out the top five. Ronnie Anderson drove from the back to win the SXS Pro Stock race.
The event was held on Glen Helen’s combined motocross and off-road track near San Bernardino. The track’s hard-packed surface made for fast lap times and an excellent show. Absent from this round were Cody and Hunter Miller.
Leaverton seems to be on a mission this year to net the championship in SXS Pro Production. He snagged the holeshot in his Polaris RZR and ran his own pace from there, leading every lap of the event. He further extends his points lead in the class with the win in front of his friends and family.
“Your race is so much easier when you can get out front early and run your own pace,” said Leaverton. “Glen Helen is always special for me and I’m super pumped to get it done in front of my hometown crowd. I got a gap on the first lap and just maintained from there. It was just a near-perfect day for me.”
Baron started third, but quickly got up to second and began extending a gap behind him. He never seriously challenged Leaverton, but he was happy with the runner-up effort, which marked his best finish in the class this season. The Polaris driver also finished second in Pro Stock and won the Pro ATV race.
“I got into second and I tried to run Corbin’s pace but he was just ripping,” said Baron. “I was pretty stoked to get a second place because I haven’t had good results in this car. I guess I’m finally figuring it out. I got a win and two seconds this weekend, so I will take it!”
Judge started on the second row, but quickly caught the front row starters in his Can-Am Maverick X3. He made his way through the field and remained third for much of the race.
“I just kept picking off guys and I was up to third on the second lap on corrected time,” said Judge. “Corbin was setting a good pace and Beau was by himself, so I just stayed third. We’ve had some stupid issues this year so it’s nice to be back on the box where I belong.”
In SXS Pro Stock, Ronnie Anderson started well back in the field, overcame issues during the race, and finished first on corrected time. Baron was second and unofficially takes the points lead. Dylan Lemburg, Chris Johnson, and Trey Gibbs completed the top five.
It marked Anderson’s first win of the season, and a definite comeback after several issues took him out of contention for the win at the last event. His Polaris RZR RS1 was clicking in every way during the race.
“At Taft I broke both rear wheel bearings, limped it into the finish and then someone broke in the scoring chute right in front of me so it was nice to win this one,” exclaimed Anderson. “The track was super cool; it stayed hard packed and raceable the whole time. It was huge to win in front of my friends and family. It’s definitely fun to race in front of my hometown crowd.”
Baron started second and bided his time behind David Haagsma. After taking the lead, he held strong in the top spot finished first physically, but scored second on adjusted time. The runner-up effort was enough to put him into the championship lead by just a few points in what is arguably WORCS’ most competitive class.
“I got off to a decent start and kept the pressure up until I could make the pass for the lead,” said Baron. “Ronnie was coming up from the back and he was flying. This is home track and it showed. He was hauling ass today. It’s good to finish on the box.”
Lemburg is a graduate of WORCS ladder system and just turned Pro this season. He overcame a flat tire on the final lap to score his first Pro podium.
“I raced the 1000 Stock class last year and moved up to Pro this year,” said Lemburg. “Everything worked out really well today. Toward the end, I blew a tire, and then we I went back to the pits the whole front of the car fell off. So, I’m blessed to be up here.”
The WORCS SXS classes will remain in California and will next race October 16-18 just across the Arizona border at Shorty’s Sports Park in Blythe, CA.
